    Care Assistant

    Purpose of the Role:

    To lead a team of staff to ensure that people’s health and social care needs are met in an individualised, person-centred way.

    Key Tasks:

    To provide high quality nursing care and to assist in identifying and responding to the health and social care of service users, this may include:

    • Providing a high standard of all aspects of direct nursing care to the resident, based on the assessment of care needs and in consultation with the resident, their relatives, if appropriate, and the care team.
    • Welcoming new admissions to the home, ensuring that the home can meet the person’s needs and any equipment needed is in place.
    • Continuously re-assessing and evaluating care given to achieve planned goals.
    • Writing and reviewing care plans and other relevant documentation in partnership with the resident, their families and friends, ensuring that they reflect the care needed.
    • Leading the staff team during the shift, organising and allocating work as necessary.
    • Ensuring that each service user receives the support and care that they need, which may involve at times direct support with personal care.
    • Monitoring service users’ weight, skin, nutrition and fluid and dietary intake and taking appropriate action if concerns arise.
    • Monitoring and managing the risk of falls, taking appropriate action as needed.
    • Enabling residents to receive religious, cultural, emotional and psychological support.
    • Providing nursing and psychological support for someone who is at the end of their life and supporting family and friends.
    • Liaising with service users’ GPs and other healthcare professionals involved and ensuring that any changes to healthcare needs after liaison is communicated and implemented.
    • Contacting emergency health services as appropriate.
    • Seeking specialist advice when needed, to ensure service users receive appropriate treatment and equipment.
    • Answering the call system, the door, the telephone and greeting visitors.
    • Effective communication and handover with colleagues using the systems in place.
    • Ordering, receiving and administering medicines as required by service users and the home’s policies and procedures.
    • Regularly reviewing your own nursing practices to develop new skills and knowledge through continuous professional development training that contributes to the enhancement of good care.
    • Attending organised training programmes/courses appropriate for the role.
    • Providing support and professional supervision to care staff, as appropriate.
    • Attending and participating in relevant staff meetings.
    • Supporting new staff, which may include them shadowing you whilst you show them how a job needs to be done correctly.

    Kitchen Assistant

    Purpose of the Role:

    To assist the Chef / Cook in all aspects of the storage, preparation and delivery of food and

    drinks to the residents, adhering to Government and local authority regulations as per

    Burwood Nursing Home Policy & Procedures. To promote a clean kitchen environment

    through high standards of practice. To maintain a safe working environment. To deputise in

    the absence of the Cook.

    Key Tasks:

    • To assist the Cook with all kitchen duties, which may include; Liaising with the Nurse in Charge or carers regarding any changes in a residents’ condition with appropriate change in diet.
    • To assist the cook with the satisfactory storage, preparation and presentation of food.
    • Ensures a sanitary working environment, a cleaning schedule is developed to assist in this task.
    • To dispose of waste in accordance with the Homes waste disposal policy.
    • To report any faults, breakages or equipment needing repairs or any other item of concern, immediately to the Chef, Manager or maintenance officer.
    • To ensure all cooking equipment and utensils are kept clean.
    • Make certain that all rules and regulations for food hygiene are adhered to at all times.
    • To maintain a high standard of hygiene, including personal hygiene to stop cross infection.
    • To ensure set duties are performed in a competent manner.
    • To work with the Chef to ensure the efficient operation of the kitchen
    • To promote and act strictly in accordance with the Home Health & Safety Policy.
    • Helping in the serving of meals and drinks, ensuring that each person receives the meal or diet that he/she has requested and is suitable for his/her needs.
    • Taking part in staff meetings.

    Housekeeping

    Purpose of the Role:

    To perform repetitive cleaning tasks in maintaining assigned areas of the home in an orderly

    and sanitary condition, ensuring a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene.

    Key Tasks:

    • Maintaining clean public facilities, resident’s rooms and bathrooms, visitor and staff areas, dining room and kitchenettes
    • Adhere to daily, weekly and monthly cleaning schedules, complete on Nourish
    • Supply rooms with consumables e.g. toilet tissue, contiwipes, soap etc.
    • Stock cleaning trolley for the shift, ensuring that cleaning cupboards are kept locked.
    • Trollies supervised throughout shift.
    • Any other duties assigned by the Head Housekeeper, Senior Nurses and Management.
    • Universal precautions must be taken when cleaning blood and body fluids ensuring that guidelines are adhered to.
    • Be aware of the health and safety statement and of COSHH statement and risk assessments
    • To report any malfunction of equipment or fittings that require maintenance or cannot be kept to standard through normal cleaning procedures 
    • Contribute towards the induction and training of new staff
    • Respond in a polite and professional manner towards residents and visitors at all times. Never enter a residents room without knocking and getting permission to enter
    • Be aware of the Staff Handbook, uniform policy and general conduct
    • Taking part in staff meetings.
    • Changing beds, tidying bedrooms, drawers and wardrobes
    • To promote the good name of the Home at all times.
    • Welcoming visitors and professionals warmly and efficiently.
