What Burwood’s CQC Report Means for Our Residents
At Burwood Nursing Home, our purpose has always been to provide exceptional, compassionate care that enhances the quality of life for every resident. We are incredibly proud of the environment we have built, and we are delighted to share the highlights and details of our recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) report—a document that truly reflects our dedication to excellence. This outstanding result, combined with our Gold Standard Framework Platinum Accreditation, confirms our commitment to high standards in every aspect of our care.
Understanding the CQC Report
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator of all health and social care services in England. Its role is to ensure that services like ours provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, and high-quality care. The CQC inspects and monitors services, publishing its findings to help people choose care with confidence.
A CQC report is a comprehensive assessment based on five key questions: Are services safe? Are they effective? Are they caring? Are they responsive to people’s needs? And are they well-led? For families, these reports offer clear, detailed, and trustworthy insight into the standard of care a home provides, making it an invaluable resource when making important life decisions.

The report includes direct feedback from residents and their families, such as: “Staff treat us like their own family,” and “I always feel listened to and valued.” Relatives expressed deep gratitude for the emotional support provided during challenging times.

The CQC commended our commitment to person-cantered care, noting our responsive approach to changing needs. Inspectors were impressed by our activities program, designed around residents’ hobbies, physical abilities, and cultural preferences. The provision for residents with dementia was described as “exemplary,” ensuring inclusivity for everyone.

Leadership at Burwood was described as “inspirational and forward-thinking.” The report highlighted our strong culture of openness, continuous learning, and staff empowerment. Inspectors recognized the positive impact of our regular family forums and commitment to transparent communication.
Safe: Good
While our safety procedures were rated ‘Good,’ the CQC noted our heightened vigilance, robust safeguarding practices, and ongoing investment in staff training. The inspectors acknowledged some recent enhancements in medication management and infection prevention, stating that our systems “consistently safeguard residents from harm.”
This exceptional result is a direct reflection of our team’s relentless dedication to placing our residents at the heart of everything we do. The CQC concluded that Burwood “goes above and beyond” statutory requirements, and offered multiple examples of staff making a positive difference every single day.
Gold Standard Framework Platinum Accreditation
Alongside our CQC success, we are immensely proud to have once again been awarded the Gold Standard Framework (GSF) Platinum Accreditation. This prestigious recognition is a testament to our team’s excellence in providing the highest quality of end-of-life care.
The GSF is a nationally recognised programme that helps health and social care providers deliver ‘gold standard’ care for people in their final years. Achieving Platinum status demonstrates that our practices are not only consistent but are embedded in our culture, ensuring every individual receives dignified and compassionate support tailored to their wishes.
The Team Behind Our Achievements
These accolades are not just marks on a page; they represent the daily passion, hard work, and empathy of every member of the Burwood team. From our nurses and carers to our administrative and support staff, each person plays a vital role in creating a warm, supportive, and truly outstanding home.
Our staff’s unwavering commitment is the foundation of our success. Their ability to connect with residents on a personal level, anticipate their needs, and provide comfort and companionship is what truly sets Burwood apart. We are more than a nursing home; we are a family.

We are dedicated to maintaining this ‘gold standard’ of care, proactively embracing new ideas, and evolving with the needs and wishes of our residents.
